Story Montage for Over Easy

July 11, 2010 at 12:49 pm | Category: blog

The first writing workshop I ever attended was taught by Jenny Crusie, and one of the things she discussed was story collaging. Hers are wondrous things, but then, she’s an artist.

I’m not very artistic, but here is the montage I made based on my first story, OVER EASY. I need to go back and revise that story, but I thought you might like to see the results of my first attempt. In Jenny’s case, hers are “collages” because they feature a variety of materials. Mine is only comprised of photos; hence “montage.” (A journalism teacher of mine drilled the difference into me many years ago.)

As you can tell by the title and the montage, OVER EASY is a story of love and lies and eggs in all their aspects, from Humpty Dumpty to fertilized eggs. I hope to get back to this story soon - I still like it.

Becke’s Blogs

July 7, 2010 at 11:25 pm | Category: blog

I should probably update this more often, but I’m also blogging at a couple of other sites.

For news about what’s happening at B&N’s Mystery Book Club and for garden articles, check out The Mysterious Garden Muse.

For my random musings and occasional posts by others in my family, check out The Family Treethyme.

You already know I have a dark side — I write romantic suspense as well as lighter, contemporary romance. Do you remember that movie, The Three Faces of Eve? Well, I have a third “face,” too, because I sometimes write some pretty hot stuff under the pen name Anya Davis. She’s not published yet, either, but I wanted the name to be more than a placeholder until that happens. (I’m a positive thinker.) You can read Anya’s blogs here.

We’re on a summer hiatus right now, but normally you can also find me blogging at Romance: B(u)y the Book.  I alternate with Michaela at Barnes & Noble’s Garden Variety blog, and you can ALWAYS find me at B&N’s Mystery Book Club.

Thanks to all of you who are following me - you rock!

Lori Foster’s 2010 Readers & Authors Get Together

June 3, 2010 at 10:54 am | Category: blog

6th Annual

Readers and Authors Get Together

from Lori Foster, Dianne Castell, Linda Keller

Friday, June 4 — Sunday, June 6, 2010

Cincinnati Marriott North at Union Centre, West Chester Ohio

Raffle Baskets Galore!
(Everyone is welcome to donate a basket if they want to)

NOTE: Our raffle proceeds always go to a very worthy cause. This year they will go to the “One Way Farm,” - a home for abused and abandoned children.

There will be a giant book fair, as well as a used book trade.
Plus there’s always time to get your already-purchased books signed by attending authors!

I am excited to be attending this conference for the third time. So many readers and authors attend this event - it’s always a blast! And for unpublished authors, the editor and agent pitch appointments are very helpful, too.

If you’re going to be there, be sure to bid on some of the raffle baskets I’ve donated - lots of books and other goodies in some really cute totes!

This year I’ll be on two workshop panels:

1) Twitter vs. Facebook: The Smackdown

Keri Stevens and Becke Martin Davis

Fairfield Board Room, 9 - 10 a.m. Saturday

2) Critique Partners & Other Lovers: The Prenup

Becke Martin Davis, Keri Stevens and Gabriella Edwards

Monroe Board Room, 1 - 2 p.m. Saturday

We’ll have door prizes at each of these workshops!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

March 16, 2010 at 11:33 pm | Category: blog

With loving thoughts of two friends who had birthdays this week and are gone much too soon: Eileen Murphy and Pat Buckmaster. You are missed!

To my friends:

May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
and all your heart might desire.

I’m very excited that my short-short story, Deus Ex Machina, is featured at NPR.org. Out of 3,000 entries to the third round of their Three Minute Fiction contest, they’ve posted eight - and mine is one of them! I’m over the moon!
